About
My research examines the changes brought about by the arrival of large-scale mechanized agriculture in the Brazilian Amazon, in particular the nature of the relationship between the traditional landowning elite and the newly arrived farmers. I have started a new position at Lycoming College beginning in 2010. I previously taught both upper level and introductory courses at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and Indiana University. My work is related to several fields of study including environmental anthropology, studies of globalization, political ecology and economic anthropology and I have conducted fieldwork in the Brazilian Amazon. My current research is related to the environmental and social consequences of a shift to commodity agriculture, and includes investigations of farmers, ranchers and food consumers.
